Openess--- Group Creators Question

Public Relation persons should avoid talking about bad things of their company, however, no company will always run smoothly, and they should be openess to all their stakeholders and customers.
How should PR persons deal with some bad news about their company?

While it is the practitioner's best interest to maintain a positive image for the organization he or she represents, I believe being honest up front helps prevent situations from escalating. Especially in cases of crisis management, admitting fault or acknowledging a mistake at the beginning is better received than trying to cover up when the story first breaks. In the end, I think people are more forgiving when they feel that they have not been lied to.
